About

Eliza smiles at the camera as she ties her shoe.

Eliza Benbow is a journalist, nonfiction essayist and editor from Greensboro, North Carolina with a passion for writing about the arts and global experiences. She is a journalism major minoring in creative writing and Spanish, gaining skills she plans to utilize in her future career as a travel journalist.

Eliza currently serves as the inaugural editor for the lifestyle desk at UNC’s student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, where she spearheads creative, engaging journalism through the paper’s arts and culture coverage of the Triangle. She has previously worked as a city & state writer for The Daily Tar Heel, the associate copyediting chief for Coulture Magazine and a data intern at the University of North Carolina Press.

Next year, Eliza will be writing a creative nonfiction honors thesis about the life of her friend Alan Brilliant, a bookseller, poet and publisher who founded the independent poetry printing press, Unicorn Press.

Much of Eliza’s life revolves around the written word, but when she isn’t editing, reading or writing, she can be found sprawled on the grass with a friend, eating pastries at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market or badly dancing at a concert.
